On hot summer days when the sun is shining bright you might just want something tropical looking, tasty and refreshing to drink – but not necessarily with alcohol. Ever been to a bar and asked for an alcohol free drink? Yeah… they aren’t always that creative, tasty or fun. So I wanted to change that!
With the help of my partner in crime (hi Schorsch!) this summer drink will get any party started. I hope I didn’t steal the name from an existing drink, in that case it has to be changed, but since it looks quite similar to a tequila sunrise (without the tequila) Blueberry Sunrise felt like the right one.
Writing down the recipe for it is a bit tricky since we always improvise, but it goes something like this:
Preparation time: How fast can you pour up a glass? 😉
- Tropical juice
- Bitter lemon (the soda drink, not raw juice)
- Grenadine syrup
- A handful blueberries
- Ice cubes
Fill up each glass with half juice and half bitter lemon. Stir gently. Slowly pour in some grenadine syrup to create the sunrise effect. How much you want depends on your taste. Add ice cubes and blueberries to the top. Serve! Feel free to experiment with the proportions to suit your own taste. I usually prefer it a bit less sweet and even tend to replace some of the juice or bitter lemon with soda water.
If you really want some alcohol I guess it would be fine to add either vodka, tequila or white rum to it, but this really is a great drink without that.
